The good, the bad, and the ugly
BC 123 / Television Writing
Realizing Professor’s true colors—she was so busy telling us about how this class will kick ass, she forgot to teach. Imagine, we got our first formal lecture after the Christmas break. All the time I sat at th back hoping I was somewhere else. And um, oh, not doing actual writing. The 30-sec TVC, the docu, and this final pilot episode teleplay we’re finishing—okay, sige, but really, ito na ‘yun?
“Ok, so let’s watch this new TV series lalala”
NEXT MEETING:
“Ok, so let’s watch lalala”
PROF: I’m so good, nu?
ME: Help.
BC 124 / Television Performance
Two words: cooking show. Sayaaaa. Prof’s awesome.
BC 125 / Production Design
One heck of a ride. Didn’t expect to be juggling palettes, Batman’s designs, Pampanga furniture, divining rods, Harry Houdini and a bib in a barong during the first hour of the first meeting. It was like Project Runway set in Divisoria. Will take Prof again next sem.
“Your work was visually superior. But I didn’t get it. So it doesn’t count.”
BC 185 / Broadcast Media Studies
Winged the final paper. 9 hours reading time. 3 hours actual writing. Inspired by Sir Joe’s dissertation. THE ROCK STAR AS AN INTERGENERATIONAL FIGURE IN TELEVISION AND FILM MYTHOLOGY AND IDEOLOGY. Sabaw, pero fun.
BC 196 / Crises in Broadcasting
Firing a gun. Free lunches every week. That was it, really.
PROF: Some people criticize me and say that by feeding students every week, I’m bribing them. That’s not true. Okay, I need a volunteer.
ME: Hello.
PROF: Ok, here’s 200 pesos for raising your hand.
J 101 / Introduction to Journalism
Hands down—the most stellar class I’ve taken. The work load. The standards. And ah, the thrill of getting your papers back. Mam Chua—brilliant. Will probably take her again for a non-credit class.
“Get your leads right, or you’re a goner.”
